📌 Structure

The structure is very important. The question word is always first, and the verb ‘be’ comes before the subject.

Formula: Question Word + am / is / are + Subject?

Question WordVerb ‘be’SubjectExample Question
Whatisyour nameWhat is your name?
WhereareyouWhere are you from?
How oldaretheyHow old are they?

📝 Notes

Remember to always change the verb ‘be’ to match the subject!

  • I → am
  • You / We / They → are
  • He / She / It → is

Don’t confuse the word order. In a statement, the subject is first (You are happy). In a question, the verb ‘be’ is first (Are you happy? / Why are you happy?).
